About Lauren
Lauren received her BA in Music Performance from Southern Oregon State University and degree in Music Education from University of Oregon where she studied viola with Lawrence Maves. She did long-term Suzuki Teacher Training with John Kendall at the Suzuki Institute at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. While there she continued her viola studies with Robert Schieber, violist with the American String Quartet and held a part-time public school music teacher position in St. Louis, MO. After training she took a public school string teaching position in Eugene, OR and performed with symphony and opera orchestras in that area.
As music started to be dropped from public school curriculum in the mid 1980's, Lauren moved to Anchorage, AK where she taught private lessons and performed with the Anchorage Symphony, Anchorage Opera Orchestra, and Anchorage Ballet. She loved Alaska but after nine years wanted to be closer to her family in Oregon and relocated to Portland teaching at the Community Music Center. While in Portland Lauren studied viola with Connie Whelan and performed as a union musician with several area groups including
Columbia Symphony Orchestra,
Newport Symphonyand freelance jobs. She continues to play with the
Portland Festival Symphonyin the summers.
Upon moving to Seattle in 2005, Lauren has taught Suzuki violin and viola at the Suzuki Academy at Music Center of the Northwest and now also at Suzuki Music Center of Washington. She performs regularly with
Philharmonia Northwest , the Walton String Quartet, and freelance gigs.
